There is a lot of confusion around about this so, hopefully,
this will help to clarify the issue and help those who wish to check if
they have the applications concerned installed or not and how to remove
it from their profile.
CHEATER APPS - WHAT ARE THEY?
Cheater
apps are BOTS (programs) designed to auto claim any gift or item posted
to facebook. So, if you have a friend using any of these apps, the
installed application will automatically 'grab' any item you post to the
live feed without the need for any interraction by the user.
With
these applications installed, the user can be doing anything they want -
shopping, cooking dinner, sleeping - so long as their machine is on and
they are logged in to Facebook, the application will do the work for
them. Being a program, it is also instant in it's functionality - far
quicker than any human sitting patiently waiting for something then
moving their mouse to point, click and grab.
These applications
effectively steal your gifts from the live feed for the person who has
it installed and your other friends won't even get a look in!
They
are unfair and are in breach of the terms of the Game Application they
interact with.
WHICH APPS ARE CHEATER APPS?
Currently, we are
aware of 1 cheater app still in operation through Facebook - GAMERS
UNITE - which installs a toolbar into your browser (a second Cheater
App, Freeder, has already been closed down by Facebook). The link below
will take you to the applications User List, showing you any of your
friends that ARE using the application. However, THE APPLICATION MUST BE
INSTALLED BEFORE THEIR NAME WILL APPEAR IN THIS LIST. If people
visiting the pages of these apps to take part in discussions HAVE NOT
INSTALLED THE APPLICATION they will not appear in the list of users.

HOW
CAN I REMOVE THIS APPLICATION?
Firstly, you need to check to see if
you have previously BLOCKED this application. If you have blocked it,
you will not be able to remove it - you will need to unblock it first.
To unblock an application, go to:
ACCOUNT > PRIVACY SETTINGS
> APPLICATIONS & WEBSITES > BLOCKED APPLICATIONS
and
click on the EDIT BLOCKED APPLICATIONS button. Scroll through the list
of blocked applications to see if GAMERS UNITE is listed. If it is,
unblock it by clicking the 'remove' link next to its name.
Then
go to:
ACCOUNT > APPLICATION SETTINGS
and scroll
through the list of applications to see if GAMERS UNITE is listed. If it
isn't listed, you don't have it installed.
If it IS listed,
click on the X on the far right of its name to remove it. You will then
have uninstalled it from your profile and you will no longer appear in
the List of Users when a friend views the User List for the app.
If
you wish, you can return to the applications homepage and click the
BLOCK APPLICATION button again to re-block it. This will prevent you
seeing anything posted via the app in your live feed and will help to
prevent you from accidentally installing it again.
APPLICATIONS
THAT HELP PLAYERS
There is an application which a lot of players find
useful called Bonus Checker which is NOT a BOT - it simply runs through
your live feed looking for items that have been posted and gives you a
list of links to click for those items. You still have to click the
links manually to try and get the items and if they have already been
taken, you won't be able to get them but it helps to filter out all the
non-game posts that can somtimes make it difficult for people to find
the things they need. If you are interested in using Bonus Checker, you
can check it out here:

I
asked Zynga about this and this is their 2 responses to me!
-Michael
McCord- Hello Michael,
Thanks for contacting Zynga Customer
Support. You can advise then that this is indeed a cheat, and there
accounts will be found, or reported, and then they will be banned.
Cheating is very unacceptable, and all cheaters are dealt with very
strictly. We here at Zynga take this very seriously, because it creates
issues with other users that are trying to play fairly. If you can
please advise them to stop, or they will no longer be allowed to play
Mafia Wars. Thank you so much for letting me know about this, Michael.
Please also note that if they are banned then that leaves you with fewer
Mafia members. As you can see, Michael, cheating doesn't just mess up
the cheaters opponents, but also their own account, and their Mafia
members.

Kind regards,
Laura P.

-Michael McCord- Hello Michael,
Thanks
for contacting Zynga. My name is Laura, and I will try my best to
assist you today,Michael. I regret to inform you that this is all
actually true. Unfortunately, there are players out there that use these
cheats to play Mafia Wars. However, I must also advise you that this is
not permitted, and anyone that is caught or reported using any of these
cheats are automatically banned. Please let all of your Mafia members
know that this is all not acceptable. Thank you again, Michael. Have a
nice evening.
