Light-bulbZynga To Shut Down Three More Games (Including CityVille 2)

During this afternoon’s fourth-quarter earnings call, Zynga announced three more game shutdowns — CityVille 2, Party Friends, and The Friend Game.

The most notable closure was probably CityVille 2, since it was the sequel to what was once Zynga’s biggest hit. However, the game’s traffic has plummeted. COO David Ko blamed some of CityVille 2′s failure on a lack of lead time to properly test the game.

Zynga had earlier announced a cost-savings plan that saw the shutdown of 11 titles. This year, the company will be releasing fewer games and spacing their releases further apart, Ko said. He also said that many of those new games have significant franchise potential.

Not all of the news was bad. Zynga’s earnings actually beat fourth-quarter analyst estimates, and during the call it touted a big milestone for FarmVille as well as the successful launch of its sequel.

CityVille 2 has already been closed to new players and will completely shut down on March 7.

The Games Unite! Snag Bar will continue to support CityVille 2 until it completely closes, at which time we will remove the game.

I finally found me a game I like even invested alot of money into, only to be told ur closing it.. What about the money we have invested ???? Are we gonna get some kind of kick back so we feel like we were took once again. Why can't u let the ones that started out with the game stay and keep playing just cut of all begininners...

If they designed cityville 2 like coasterville and farmville 2 where we can actually get somewhere even without 1000 friends helping then the game would have been more successful...........I cannot add land without paying an exorbitant price, cant finish buildings because no one sends me the stuff I need, the cost of every building is WAY out of touch....what is the use of designing a great game if you cannot get anywhere it it.....tone down the sharing crap, tone down the ask a neighbor or ask a friend and give us opportunities to EARN cash....

It may be flawed but so is their policy on what they do with player currency. I have over 200 keys in the account and obviously no desire to continue playing now that the game is closing. Asked for a transfer of the funds to farmville or chefville and was told no and referred to terms of service. I vehemently objected and then posted on their support site suggested people contact their credit card providers. That got me an instant ban of course but also got me results. I got a refund via my credit card company and I suspect Zynga is in a world of hurt from upset customers and possibly credit card companies over denial of service. It's one thing to deny transfers if the game is active but closure is something else all together.
