Light-bulbGetting "Oops, can't read your wall"? "Error Code 8 - This requires an HTTPS connection"? Read on!

We know from many member reports, that in the past few months many users have been getting an error dialog like below:

oops, can't read wall

This has been a reallly hard issue to track down because 1) it doesn't seem to happen to any of the admins or mods 2) to those affected, it only happens randomly and sporadically.

However, thanks to persistence and patience of member Byrd Toni Byrd Toni, who emailed me multiple times and offered many screen sharing sessions, I think I've uncovered a proximate cause of the issue and a possible work-around.

I'm pretty sure it's a Facebook issue and have submitted a bug to them and actually got a response from them yesterday!

A Fix to Error Code 8 has been already rolled out. Please disregard the old content below.

I also came up with a work-around: since I don't get the issue, I'm not sure if it will work. This is where I need your help if you're brave enough to help out :)

If you're encountering this Error Code 8 problem and use the FireFox 3.6.x browser, please visit:

http://gamersunite.coolchaser.com/toolbar/experimental

Click the checkbox and see if the problem persists. Make sure your toolbar version is 0.91 (or newer).

This is just an experiment and currently only works on FireFox 3.6.x browsers (possibly also IE9). If this succeeds we'll roll it out to all browsers supporting the snag bar.

If you're trying this out and it's not working, please provide as much details as possible below. Thanks for your help!

As previously posted by Chao:

"Error 190 is related to not being able to connect to Facebook. Googling around, they recommend, logging out of facebook, clearing your cookies and restarting your browser.

In the worse case, remove GU! Facebook (under FB privacy settings), and reconnect with GU! again."

We rolled this change out to everyone March 31st. So you no longer need to tick this change.
