I came across this while redecorating my home today. I thought I would share it with the community here.  I'm not sure if it works for everyone but it worked for me after testing it a few times over different lengths of time.  Let me know if it works or not in a comment.

1) The first thing you have to do is become inspired.  To do this easily and fast, go to Bella's house and wait until your sim talks to her automatically to raise the social meter without using energy.  Go back to your home and refill your other needs without using energy. 

2) *Note that if you don't want to, you don't have to use all your energy but it takes the point out of gaining money* Once you are inspired, use your energy doing whatever makes you the most money.

3)  After you used all your energy and are still inspired, go into the buy and build mode by clicking on 'Shop' or 'Build'.  This froze my needs, or at least made them go down slower, but kept my energy going up. 

4) Leave the tab or window open and come back after awhile.  Leave the Shop or Build mode and see if you are still inspired or not, if you are then it worked.  Use your gained energy on your job and rinse and repeat.
