Light-bulbSnag Bar Status: WORKING

Please_share
by Amy Wong - Oct 01, 2011 Star_s373,602 views

Current Status: WORKING

This post shows the current status of the Snag Bar, which is updated regularly as problems occur. Please check this thread when you think your Snag Bar is not working.

4/1/14 @ 9:58 AM CDT: There are no known site-wide Snag Bar issues at this time. However, make sure to check the Additional Known Issues section below as it contains known computer/browser issues that some people have experienced.

Additional Known Issues

  • Occasionally, one or more Facebook friends may "disappear" from the Snag Bar.
By this we mean that the Snag Bar simply won't be able to see that person in your News Feed. At this time, we believe this is a Facebook glitch. We have looked through our code several times in an attempt to explain this glitch but have not found anything. Whatever the cause, this glitch usually resolves itself after a few days and the missing friend(s) will become snaggable again.
  • Sometimes Chrome will remove the Snag Bar from the browser.
    1) Check the browser's Extensions page (type "chrome://extensions" in the address bar) and make sure the Snag Bar is enabled. If there is no listing, or if enabling it doesn't fix it, then go to your computer's Add/Remove Programs page and click on the GU! listing to fully uninstall it from your computer. Once you have done that, you can reinstall the Snag Bar.
    2) If this continues to happen, then your Chrome's user data has likely become corrupted. Click here to be taken to a Google Support page that contains instructions on how to fix this. PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to provide any additional support on this issue unless and until you have created a new User Data file.
  • My Snag Bar keeps losing my Toolbar Preferences game settings.
This issue is especially prevelant with the Chrome Snag Bar, where we were forced by Google to store the Toolbar Preferences options on an individual's computer instead of on our servers. As a result, every time a member clears out Chrome's cookies, their Toolbar Preferences settings will revert back to default. You can manually store your Snag Bar game settings to our server by clicking the "Preferences not stored?" link on your Toolbar Preferences page (works on all browsers). Should your Toolbar Preferences page get reset back to default, you can then click that same link to load your game settings back into your browser. You can also use this feature to port your game settings from one browser to another or from one computer to another (same GU! member only).

Browsers

The Snag Bar currently works on the following browsers:

  • PC: Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome
  • MAC: Firefox

Our framework provider is reportedly working on a version for the Safari browser for MAC computers. As far as we know, they currently have no plans to release versions for any other browser.

Uninstall the Snag Bar

  • Internet Explorer: Tools --> Manage add-ons --> disable & delete Gamers Unite! Snag Bar
  • Firefox: Firefox --> Add-ons --> Extensions --> disable & delete Gamers Unite! Snag Bar
  • Chrome: Customize and control Google Chrome --> Settings --> Extensions --> disable & delete Gamers Unite! Snag Bar
  • IE, FF & Chrome: Also uninstall Gamers Unite! Snag Bar form the Add/Remove Programs page in your computer's Control Panel

App, Flash, and Browser Cleaning

From time to time, your computer, your browser, Facebook, or the Snag Bar may simply start misbehaving for no good reason. Something, somewhere, just stops working like it is suppose to, and no amount of screaming, yelling, or hitting your computer screen will fix it.

There could be any number of reasons why this happens, far too many to get into. Sometimes, the only thing to do is clean out some of the cobwebs, uninstall a few things, and/or update a few things. It's a hassle, yes, but you would be surprised how often this can work.

The steps below will help you do all that. If you are experiencing a problem with the Snag Bar not responding like it should, the below steps should be the first thing you do. Complete them in the order given and exactly as written. Do not take any shortcuts or skip any steps, as it's possible that the one shortcut you take or step you skip is the one that would have helped you.

  1. Delete the GU! App from your Facebook Profile (http://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=applications)
  2. Log out of Facebook (do this on every browser installed on your computer)
  3. Visit Gamers Unite! (http://gamersunite.com), look in the top right corner of the page, and make sure you are logged out (do this on every browser installed on your computer)
  4. Uninstall the GU! Snag Bar (http://gamersunite.coolchaser.com/topics/74033-gamers-unite-snag-bar-status-working - do this for every browser the Snag Bar is installed on)
  5. Clear Flash Player cache (http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager07.html - "Delete All Sites")
  6. Clear your browser's cache (do this for every browser installed on your computer)
  7. Reboot your computer
  8. Open your browser (pick one browser)
  9. If using Chrome, make sure you have the latest version installed (select “About Google Chrome” in the browser or type chrome://chrome in the URL bar)
  10. If using Firefox, make sure you have the latest version installed (select “Firefox” --> “Help” --> “About Firefox” --> “Check for Updates”)
  11. If using IE or FF, make sure your Flash Player is updated: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html (does not apply to Chrome)
  12. If using IE or FF, make sure your Shockwave Player is updated: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome (does not apply to Chrome)
  13. Log back into Facebook
  14. Reinstall the GU! App (http://gamersunite.com - blue "Connect with Facebook" button on top right of page)
  15. Reinstall the Snag Bar (http://gamersunite.com - "Get the Snag Bar” link on top left of page)
  16. Set your preferences on the Toolbar Preferences page (http://gamersunite.coolchaser.com/toolbar/preferences)
  17. Close & reopen your browser
  18. Test out the Snag Bar

In addition, ALL QUESTIONS IN THE HIGHLIGHTED SECTION BELOW MUST BE ANSWERED when seeking Snag Bar support from us. While it may seem like there are too many questions or that they are not needed, these questions are the only way we have to "see" what is happening on your computer. This is especially true when the problem you are experiencing is not a site-wide problem and cannot be recreated by the Gamers Unite! Staff, as is the case with over 95% of the issues reported to us.

FAILURE TO READ THIS POST AND ALL STICKIED COMMENTS BEFORE POSTING, and/or failing to answer all questions in the highlighted section below, may result in your post being deleted or ignored.

NOTE: This thread is for reporting issues with our SNAG BAR ONLY! Posting of issues regarding any other Gamers Unite! tool, or asking any question not specifically related to our Snag Bar, WILL BE DELETED.

Your description should include (at a minimum):

  1. Your browser name and version number
  2. Your computer's operating system
  3. What Anti-virus and/or Anti-malware programs you use
  4. The game or games you are trying to snag for

  11. Does the problem occur on other Facebook accounts you or your family have (if applicable)
  12. Whether the problem occurs when using a different browser
  13. Whether the problem occurs constantly or randomly
  14. What steps have you taken to try and solve this problem (be specific)
  15. Whether anything changed after taking those steps and, if so, exactly what changed
  16. A step-by-step detailed description of what is happening from the moment you hit "Snag" (or open your browser if you can’t get that far)
  17. A screenshot of the problem
  18. Any other information that might be relevant to this problem

Please leave a clear, well-written, well-punctuated, and detailed description of your issue. If we cannot read or understand what you have written, or if you do not include enough information about your problem, then we may be unable to help.

Troubleshooting Wizard / Screensharing

While we will do our best to help you, it is possible that we may hit a dead end and not know how to proceed. If that happens, you may be asked to screenshare with us. This is where you will download a program that will allow us to connect with your computer so we can attempt to diagnose the issue.

If we ask to screenshare with you and you are willing, please visit our Troubleshooting Wizard. This page will ask you a few questions to ensure that nothing has been missed. If the problem still exists, you will be directed to a page with instructions on how to prepare to screenshare with us. Once you are ready to screenshare, post in this thread that you are ready and we will attempt to get an Admin to connect with you.

Because there are only a couple of people on the Gamers Unite! Staff who can screenshare, this is an option of last resort. Submitting a screenshare request without first attempting to get help in this thread may result in your request being ignored. In addition, there may be times where screensharing is not warranted even if we have run out of thoughts and options on what may be causing your issue.

Please note that if you are asked to screenshare but choose not to do so, then we will be unable to provide any additional Snag Bar support for you.

If you see something that just doesn't seem to be snagging, please do the following:

1) Go to the MyFeed of the game you are playing (e.g. http://gamersunite.coolchaser.com/games/cityville/myfeed for Cityville) OR our Game Feed app. IMPORTANT: if it says "Report as Snaggable" then it's NOT on our database yet, so please click the link to report it.

2) Copy the "Image URL" and "action link" and paste it here so we can check if it's been added to our database.

This will help us immensely with debugging. Thanks!

I just uninstalled the snag bar and reinstalled the snag bar by your instructions and it is still doing the same thing. Instead of snagging I am still getting the "needs_login" popup at the bottom of the screen and I AM logged in. So I am at a loss on this one. Everything IS UP TO DATE in Chrome and it is still not working.

Picture?type=square

1. Your browser name and version number - Chrome 41.0.2272.118 m (yes I updated thinking it would fix this error)
2. Your computer's operating system - Win7
3. What Anti-virus and/or Anti-malware programs you use - AVG
4. The game or games you are trying to snag for - Farmville
5. When the problem started - About 6:00pm Eastern Time
6. Whether you have had any problems accessing your Facebook Profile - No problems accessing FB profile
7. If you have recently installed / uninstalled / updated any programs on your computer - NO
8. If the problem occurs on other computers (if applicable) - Not applicable
9. Do you have a second Facebook account - NO
10. Does anyone else use the same computer to access their Facebook account - NO
11. Does the problem occur on other Facebook accounts you or your family have (if applicable) - Not applicable
12. Whether the problem occurs when using a different browser - Only able to get snag bar to work in Chrome... and it is now not working.
13. Whether the problem occurs constantly or randomly - consistently now
14. What steps have you taken to try and solve this problem (be specific) - When this started about 6pm eastern time in my older version of Chrome, I bit the bullet and updated the browser to 41.0.2272.118 m. The snag bar started snagging again like usual UNTIL, it had snagged about 20 or so items, then it started again giving me a popup that says "needs_login" instead of actually getting the item, just like it was doing before in my older version. So now I know that my older version of Chrome was NOT the issue here because it is doing the same thing in the newest version.

15. Whether anything changed after taking those steps and, if so, exactly what changed - Nothing has changed, I am back where I started.
16. A step-by-step detailed description of what is happening from the moment you hit "Snag" (or open your browser if you can’t get that far)
Earlier today with my older version of Chrome, I opened the browser and logged into facebook like I always do.
Started up Snag Bar like I always do and it was working just fine.
About 6pm or so instead of getting the popup notifying me what was received I was seeing "needs_login" on the popup, so I knew something was wrong.
Logged out of snag bar and facebook and logged back in again like before only to see the same error message popping up "needs_login" instead of the item that was snagged.
So I updated Chrome to the newest version to see if that would fix it. Got the browser updated, logged back in to FB and then the snag bar and it started working again.
After getting about 20 or so items the "needs_login" started popping back up again.

Any other information that might be relevant to this problem - At this point I have no other information to give. I had changed nothing on my system at all. The snag bar was working just fine from earlier in the morning when I logged in and just all of a sudden it stopped working and telling me I needed to login, When I look on the Snagged Items page, I am showing as being logged in. I can look on the Toolbar Preferences page just fine and it loads up just like normal. So I am at a loss here as to what broke the connection between the snag bar and facebook.

1. Your browser name and version number - Firefox version 28
2. Your computer's operating system - Win7
3. What Anti-virus and/or Anti-malware programs you use - AVG
4. The game or games you are trying to snag for - Farmville
5. When the problem started - When you updated the toolbar to work with Firefox 36
6. Whether you have had any problems accessing your Facebook Profile - No issues with this.
7. If you have recently installed / uninstalled / updated any programs on your computer - nothing updated other than the tool bar when you updated it.
8. If the problem occurs on other computers (if applicable) - this is my only computer
9. Do you have a second Facebook account - no
10. Does anyone else use the same computer to access their Facebook account - no
11. Does the problem occur on other Facebook accounts you or your family have (if applicable) - not applicable
12. Whether the problem occurs when using a different browser - Currently I am running an older version of Chrome and the snag bar that is installed in that still works.
13. Whether the problem occurs constantly or randomly - constant
14. What steps have you taken to try and solve this problem (be specific) - I went through the uninstall/reinstall procedures which netted me the same results I had before doing so.
15. Whether anything changed after taking those steps and, if so, exactly what changed - nothing changed
16. A step-by-step detailed description of what is happening from the moment you hit "Snag" (or open your browser if you can’t get that far) -
a. When I click on the Snag button, it does NOT depress and thus does NOT load the snag bar.
b. When I click on the cog wheel to try and access the Preferences page, I get the Checking Status screen and the snag bar tries to make a connection with the server, but fails to do so and tells me it cannot detect my snag bar.
c. If I click on "try refreshing the page" it has the same end result.

The snag bar I had was working perfectly UNTIL it was updated a week or so ago to work with Firefox 36. Since then the Snag button will not depress to start it and I cannot get it to load by any other means that I have tried. Clicking "reload snag bar" button yields no success either, it just keeps "checking toolbar" and goes no further.

Please don't tell me that I have to update this browser just to get the snag bar to work with it again! I HATE what Firefox has done to their browser and prefer to keep the old one I have. I guess I should have unchecked the button to allow updates to the snag bar, then perhaps this would not have happened... but too late to go back now.

Chrome Version 41.0.2272.89 m
Windows7
AVG
Pioneer Trail and Castleville
Started not working about 2 weeks ago, Feb. 26, 2015
No issues logging into Facebook.
Followed the tips listed above for clearing browser, Flash, uninstall/re-install, unliking,... etc.
No other computer
1 other Facebook account for gaming. It does not work with that account either.
No one else uses this computer
Snag bar does not work with other account either
No other browser in use.
Problem has been continuous.
As mentioned above, clearing, uninstall/re-install... etc.
No change. Still not snagging.
When I start the snag it logs in and then does nothing. I have had the Snag bar for well over a year, so I know how it is supposed to work. It is not snagging anything.
There is no screenshot. It would be of the red G and a little red 0 for nothing snagged.

I have looked around to see if the admins or developers had said anything about this issue and it just keeps coming back to this post and a lot of players asking when it will be fixed. I know there is the
issue with the new Facebook API, but we are all just wondering if there will be a fix for Chrome and other browser soon or will we be waiting longer?

A clear and honest response would be appreciated by all of us players.

no problems accessing FB profile
it's a new computer
doesn't occur on other computers
yes I have a second FB account for non gaming
no one else uses the FB accounts
problem only occurs on this computer
problem exists only when using Chrome
problem occurs constantly
The problem is that I get a download error. I can download other items, so I know it's not a firewall. The message is:
Download Error There was a problem during the download. Try again later.
Because it didn't download correctly, it doesn't show in my download folder or in add/remove programs. I've tried several times and on several days, it yields the same results. It's a new computer I am on, but isn't really protected other than by Mcaffee. I will be adding more protection, but wanted to install this first.
