Light-bulbFacebook Changes Default Email to Facebook Email

Today, Facebook changed everyone’s default email, the contact email that you have displayed on your Facebook profile Timeline, to a Facebook Email. The email that you chose to have displayed will stay hidden until you change your settings. The change was made without warning or consent, but that’s how Facebook seems to be doing things nowadays. Good news is that it’s an easy fix that will only inconvenience you for a little bit.

So if you’d like to change your default back to the old email of your choice here’s what to do:

1) Go to the About page on your Facebook Timeline.

2) In the right column, find the "Contact Info" section and click the "Edit" button.

3) For each e-mail address listed, decide whether to display it on your Timeline (right option) and who can see it (left option).

4) Click the "Save" tab at the bottom of the box.

Just a note: Facebook has NOT changed your primary, or default, e-mail in your profile. Whatever e-mail address you have set as primary is still set as such. What has changed is your DISPLAYED e-mail address. This has now been changed to your @facebook.com address.

Although you CAN NOT delete your new @facebook.com address from your profile, you can hide it and/or display another one. Just follow the steps above (note to 'Abhinandan: the steps you listed were too confusing; I edited that part to make it easier to understand).

While you are in the Contact Info section, take a look at all the other information you have provided and who you have chosen to display it to. Most of us have friends who are only friends because we play the same games together. Do these "friends" really need to see your full address and phone number? Does this information really need to be listed at all, even if you keep it hidden?

Use this opportunity to look at what you have added and think about who is viewing it, and whether it should be listed at all.

It's disrespectful towards the users to change their mail without notice. >:-[
