you have to exceed level 4 in the relationship with your friend,then you can be able to do the romance on the couches with the avatar that you level up your relationship with.to get to level up your relationship you have to click on the friend avatar ,then pick any action..the meter of relationship will appear below the happiness meter after u pick the happiness n love that pop out.like starr richard say,u ..after that, then u be able to get deeper romance

I'm at a relationship level 10 "soulmates" ... I did what christine did ...visit and invite over every day ...but now it seems that there is no more leveling up ?!?!

I got to level 5, called the guy over, flirted, watched a romantic movie then was able to go woopie, i think by that stage we were level 6.. I was only able to use the second double bed, not the flower power one, and use the plasma tv for the movie, not sure if the romantic movie was the key but it worked

i found out you have to be trying to level up with a real person lol sorry if you don't have anybody.

im on level 25 on the game but im on a romance level 8 with a friend just still cant do it no matter how i try

im on level 8 with one of my friends ive tried making out on their sofa and mine and still it wont work it driving me mad

im relationship lvl 6 with the avatar I "made out with" on the couch. No special tasks, only this was the ville friend I mostly visited and exchanged with since it was my first buddy there. It wouldnt work with anyone any level lower though.

I spoke with Zynga today, and you have to complete certain "goals / jobs" to achieve the possibility of a deeper romance or better friendship

Im not sure the goals you would have to complete, but based off where I am now in the game, it seems it coming close. Im at Jake's "Eye of the Big Cat" goal. If someone is farther along and this is incorrect please let me know.

I have a level 4 romantic relationship with another avatar but still wont let me "make out" on the couch so I'm guessing it has got to be lvl 5 or higher.

i can flirt with neighbors but it still wont go up

You have to interact with a neighbor until it let's you ask them out. I'm not sure what level of friendship it is but I think it might be around level 3, so you pretty much have to keep going until you're able to flirt with a neighbor. After that you should be causally dating, and at this point all of your interactions with that person should be "romantic" which is how you build up the deeper romance.
